I know I promised a few more reviews before the Oscar gala tonight, but I haven't been able to find the time to write them. I will write them some time soon though. Anyway, here I'm just posting my (quick) Oscar predictions for tonight. I'm only doing it for 14 categories; for those of the categories that I actually know what they mean and where I actually have an opinion on it. I haven't seen all of the films in these categories, but I've seen quite a lot of them. So, below are my predictions. The first ones I wrote are my personal picks, but I doubt me and Hollywood have the same taste, so I in some cases added another possibility which I think might win (deservedly or not). :P
Best picture
Little Miss Sunshine (my pick)
Another possibility is Babel.
Best actor in a leading role
Forest Whitaker, for The Last King of Scotland (my pick)
Another possibility is Ryan Gosling, for Half Nelson.
Best actress in a leading role
Helen Mirren, for The Queen
Best actor in a supporting role
Djimon Hounsou, for Blood Diamond (my pick)
Another possibility is Eddie Murphy, for Dreamgirls, since everybody's talking about him. I'm not a big fan of musicals / music films though.
Best actress in a supporting role
Rinko Kikuchi, for Babel
Another possibility is Jennifer Hudson, for Dreamgirls, for the same reason as Eddie Murphy.
Best foreign language film
El Laberinto del Fauno, Mexico
Best adapted screenplay
Children of Men (my pick)
Another possibility is The Departed, since so many people seem to love it. I will scream if it wins though.
Best original screenplay
Babel
Another possibility is El Laberinto del Fauno.
Best animated feature
Monster House (my pick)
Another possibility is Cars, because it is such an "all-American" story about an underdog that lots of people seem to love.
Best directing
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, for Babel (my pick)
Another possibility is Martin Scorsese, for The Departed. *scream*
Best art direction
El Laberinto del Fauno
Best cinematography
Children of Men (my pick)
Another possibility is El laberinto del Fauno.
Best documentary feature
An Inconvenient Truth
Best visual effects
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Another possibility is Poseidon, because it's "real". I mean, it's difficult to spot the special effects in non-fantasy films, so I guess they're usually more difficult to do. But I'm hoping Pirates will win. :)
I wonder how many of them I got right. I'll be sad if some of the films win just because the people voting didn't see all of the films, and so they just voted for the one they knew most about (which seemed to have happened before). I'm really hoping that foreign actors and small independent films will win lots of Oscars this year. They deserve them! :D
