A few days ago earth_magic posted a question about the Potter Patronuses and Animagi forms. I was actually thinking about the same thing when I was reading Deathly Hallows, so this made me think of it again.
I think that the shape your Patronus takes is connected to the Animagus form of your loved ones. It's really for a simple reason. The way I understand Patronuses is that they are an incarnation of your positive thoughts. They're meant to protect you, so their shape is something you think will protect you. I'd say that normal people most often connect the feeling of protection and security with the people they care about. And if you find the thought of specific people comforting, it'd make sense that the magic which produces a Patronus would create the shape of that specific person. But because the Patronus can only be an animal, the magic picks the closest animal shape to that person -- their (potential) Animagus form.

I've been thinking about this problem we have where people are archiving or distributing fics without the authors' permission. Like I said in celandineb's post, it's sad because it seems to me that a lot of these people don't know that what they're doing is wrong. They think they're doing people a favour by helping them find fics and by making the fics more accessible to them.
Most of these people are probably new to the fandom. They've just started reading and they're excited about it and want to share that excitement with other people. I know that when I started I first thought that fics could only be found on one archive (FA) and on authors' sites. I had no idea that people had LJs, and that there were dozens of other archives. And I admit that I didn't realise there were so many archives until I started with my rec list. So I think that some of these people probably don't know that the fics can be read in more places than one. They just want to help, but what they do is annoy people. And that's sad. :(
Maybe we could make this occur less frequently by making sure that more people know the "rules". The archives could put some information on what's allowed to do with the fic found there, and what isn't. The same goes with communities where people post their fic. They could put information about that in their profiles. Just something that would say that you shouldn't distribute the fic without the author's permission. I know that this wouldn't stop everyone from doing it, but maybe it would stop at least a few. :) (I don't really know, but maybe most archives and communities already do this... I haven't checked. :P)
I admit that I have every single one of the fics on my rec list saved on my computer. I save them in case the archives are down sometimes and I want to reread the story. And it also makes the categorisation so much easier when I have the fic in one file. But would I distribute them? No way. Not if I could find a working link for the fic. If somebody asked me and I couldn't find a link for the fic, I'd tell the person to ask the author for the fic. Usually they're nice enough to send you the fic themselves, or at least give you permission to ask somebody else to send you the fic (from what I've seen, at least). You just have to ask. Nicely. :P
AND since we're talking about distributing fics, I've found another journal where the fics are posted without the authors' permission. They posted stories by authors who have already left fandom, so I'm not going to write the name of the journal here (at least not now). I have written a comment there myself though, asking them to remove the stories. I hope they won't be all offended like the last time I asked somebody to do that... And I was incredibly nice that time. :(

I've been thinking about different fic categories for the past few days. Mainly because of snarry_games, but also because I keep a rec list where I organise fics into different categories. The categories I've been thinking about are the wartime and postwar categories.
I've been asked a few times why I haven't divided the fics on my rec list into wartime and postwar categories too, as they seem to be quite popular categories. The reason why I haven't done it is because I sometimes find them confusing. ( I'll explain why they're confusing below. )

I've been thinking about the title of the seventh book - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, for those of you that don't know it yet (which is probably nobody :P). And the more I think about it, the more I like it. If Deathly Hallows refers to Horcruxes, then I like it. If not, then it depends on what it refers to...
I haven't really liked the titles of the last three books to tell you the truth. They were confusing, I guess. I don't think a lot will agree with me, but I think that the titles of the first three books were the best. The reason for this is that the titles actually said what the books were about. And in the last three books the titles had very little to do with the actual content of the book.
( The titles - dissected: )

If you were Voldemort (and weren't completely insane, and was capable of thinking somewhat logically and was, in general, able to make plans that at least children wouldn't be able to thwart, etc.) what would you make a Horcrux out of?
If I were Voldemort, I'd make a Horcrux out of this - the Apollo 11 commemorative plaque.
Mwahahahaha!!!! It'd be perfect! Nobody would suspect it, it'd be incredibly well hidden, difficult to access, and did I mention that it'd be far FAR away from people? Plus it'd be incredibly symbolic... Making a Horcrux out of something that's a symbol of the progress of humanity (Mugglemanity???), and then have Muggles put it on the moon! Try to destroy that one Harry Potter!!!! >:D (<-- my evil face)
*waits for somebody to take the idea and write H/D moon!sex*

I was randomly browsing my friends' Memories today, when I found this post by furiosity. It's about what kinds of clothes wizards and witches wear in the HP books (the first five, I believe). Her conclusions are that Hogwarts students don't wear trousers under their robes, and that wizards only wear Muggle clothes when they have to interact with Muggles or when they'll be seen by Muggles.
So what's the purpose of the Weasley jumper then? The children wear Muggle clothes only when they go out in the Muggle world, which they normally don't do in the winter, and they only wear the jumper at Christmas. Wouldn't it make more sense to knit gloves or a scarf? At least they could use that more than only a couple of days a year. o_O
And of course in the films what they wear is completely changed. They all wear trousers. *sulk* They should be wearing just the robes. Without the trousers. By the way, Scotland is very windy, isn't it? *pervs*

| Thoughts on the Polyjuice Potion |

I always love seeing Polyjuice Potion being used in fanfiction. The possibility of changing into somebody else for an hour sounds cool. :D But how exactly does it work? I've been wondering about it for the last couple of hours, thinking about different story ideas, so I thought I'd write down what conclusions and questions I've come up with.
We know the basics about the Polyjuice Potion. We know in which book the recipe can be found, what ingredients you need, how it's made and that one dose lasts one hour. We know that you need a bit of whoever you want to transform yourself into in order for the Potion to work. Toenails are mentioned, but hair seems to be everybody's favourite option. The hair can either be cut or pulled out, so it seems it isn't DNA that makes it work. Also, taking the Potion turns you into the way the person looks (missing limbs and everything else), which is something you can't get from DNA. So that basically means that any part of the person would work, as long as it was once a part of the person's body. Another thing we know from canon is that you cannot use Polyjuice to transform into an animal. If you do, like Hermione did, it takes a long time for the person to be turned back into their old self.
With Polyjuice Potion, you can turn into anybody. You can change your age and your sex (Crabbe and Goyle turned into little girls). It also doesn't seem to matter if the person you turn yourself into is missing limbs or eyes - the Polyjuice Potion takes care of that. There seems to be no "antidote" for the Potion, and no physical way of distinguishing the Polyjuiced person from the real person. When the hour is up, the Potion wears off and you turn back into yourself with all limbs attached. However, if you die while still looking like the other person, your body is stuck with that appearance (like Barty Crouch's mother).
( Now here are my questions: )

I was reading the scans from Empire Magazine article (Dec. 2006) at The Leaky Cauldron when I noticed this segment about the girl that was cast as Luna Lovegood:
"The latest addition to Harry's band is a moony sort with a good heart and a predilection for oddness. And her casting was suitably strange. "We searched for months," says producer David Heyman. "Then eventually we held an open casting and in came Evanna Lynch. She's an obsessive Potter fan who'd actually had correspondence with Jo Rowling. When she was cast Jo rang me up because she just couldn't believe it - from her letters she said, 'She is Luna.'"
O_O You think she walks around all dreamy, wearing turnip-shaped earrings, talking about UFOs, Elvis, and looking in the shrubbery for leprechauns? :o

I came across another fic today where Harry sees Snape's/Draco's arm with its Dark Mark and is shocked/disgusted/saddened/etc. by seeing it. And I was thinking that it doesn't really make much sense for it to be visible.
